Wedded Glitz
When I got engaged, one of the things I was most excited about was registering.  It’s the only time in your life when it isn’t considered rude to ask your loved ones to furnish your living quarters for you.  I had my eye on a set of gorgeous hand painted China from Neimans, a single-brew coffee machine (which at the time was cutting edge technology) from BB&B, French steak knives from Williams & Sonoma, framed prints from Z Gallerie, a set of platters from Crate & Barrel, and a bunch of other items from a bunch of other stores.  I knew I had to dwindle my store selection down to make it easier on my loved ones, and as a result, I didn’t quite put together the dream registry I had imagined.
Well, ladies.. the days of big box store registry confinement are finally behind us, thanks to MyRegistry.com.  Want to register for a handmade quilt from Etsy.com, or a table lamp from Anthropologie?  MyRegistry.com will put all of your registry wishes under one virtual roof.  During your internet perusals, just add your gift wishes from anywhere in cyberspace to your MyRegistry, point your friends and loved ones to your page, and let them make your registry dreams come true.
The only drawbacks I can think of are the fact that returns become much more cumbersome, and a registry like this might just be too foreign and complicated for our parent’s generation.   After all, the generations before us have finally gotten the hang of going to the customer service counter and asking for a printout.   MyRegistry may not be the end-all be-all of wedding registries, but it’s a great start!
